Lal indicates "red" that is why, this is well-known also as the Red Fort in Dhaka. The Fort represents as a sign of the Mughals' increasing power in Bengal during the late 17th century. That Construction began under the direction of Prince Muhammad Azam in 1678.  He didn't finish it as he was sent to another post. Ten years later, Shaista Khan also didn't complete it. There was malaria broke out and his two daughters died from it so he fled away from the region and didn't complete the intended construction. The foundation includes the Mausoleum of the two girls. In accordance with early illustrations of the fort, the Buriganga River flowed right in front of the southern gate. Today there are three main buildings on the site. And the fort has been restored. Now it is the most popular place for young couples who like to picnic on the lawn of the fort.
